Jalpaiguri: A solitary wild elephant that came out of Apalchand forest in north Bengal on Saturday morning, chased an earthmover machine and damaged a watchtower in Damdim after being harassed and chased by locals and the driver of the earthmover. The tusker suffered injuries on its head and trunk. It was later driven back to the forest. No person was injured in the incident.

Shillong, Feb 2: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had on January 24 admonished Nongstoin Range Officer during the CM-Connect event in Ranikor for sending drunk staff to address the man-elephant conflict following a complaint from a woman. However, a few days later, the woman conveyed that it was a hearsay that forest staff attend to duty after getting drunk.
