Per Mongabay, a recent report by nonprofit watchdog Traffic found an "alarming breadth of online adverts" offering illegal wildlife products for sale in Vietnam. The research, conducted between June 2021 and July 2023, found widespread availability of products from endangered and threatened species — including elephants, tigers, pangolins, rhinos, tortoises, and freshwater turtles — across "major e-commerce and social media platforms."

Another tusker adds to woes of Thadagam farmers amid relocation demands

COIMBATORE: Even as farmers in Thadagam are demanding the forest department to capture and relocate a tusker that has been damaging crops, another wild elephant, nicknamed ‘Vedi Komban’, has started to frequent farmlands adjacent to Ponnuthuamman temple near the forest area.

KUALA LUMPUR: Road users travelling on the East-West Highway are advised to use the route between 11am and 4pm to reduce the risk of encountering elephants. Perak Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) director Yusoff Shariff said that elephants are less active during this period and usually rest in the forest, especially when the weather is hot.

At least six elephants were killed in Sri Lanka after an express train got derailed after ramming into a herd near a wildlife reserve in the early hours of Thursday. The Batticaloa-Colombo express train was running near a wildlife reserve at Habana, around 180km east of Sri Lanka capital Colombo, when it crashed into the elephants who were crossing the tracks.
