A trip to a resort by a group of friends turned tragic when a 52-year old businessman from Bengaluru was killed by a tusker. The deceased, Narendra Shinde, was a resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar. While 10 friends, who were with him, claimed that he was relieving himself when the elephant attacked and killed him, forest officials disputed it. They said Shinde was trying to take a photo/selfie with the elephant after getting out of a car when the animal charged at him.

A wild elephant has created severe panic among local residents in Pathapur village under the Dampada region in Odisha's Banki. Earlier, a herd of wild elephants entered the village farmland at night. The herd moved through several crop fields and allegedly destroyed large amounts of standing crops. This caused massive financial loss to the villagers as they depended heavily on these crops for their livelihood. Though most of the elephants in the herd returned to the deep forest, one lone elephant reportedly got left behind in the village area.

The concessionaire of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) has been instructed to immediately repair the damaged safety fence and review long-term measures to enhance safety following a collision involving a vehicle and a herd of elephants at Km274.6 northbound along the Cheneh-Chukai stretch. Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said an inspection at the site found that the existing safety fence had collapsed, believed to have been damaged after being struck by the herd of elephants passing through the area.

People travelling in and around Numaligarh may encounter wild elephants at any time. The animals are frequently seen not only along the national highway but also on other connecting roads. They have reportedly begun charging at vehicles. In the Deopahar foothill area of Numaligarh, wild elephants regularly roam along National Highway 39 in the evenings, making travel extremely risky. The road connecting the Numaligarh Refinery to the Prime Ministerโ€™s Neem Ali Road has become particularly dangerous due to the frequent movement of elephant herds.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupendra Yadav chaired a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee to discuss human-wildlife conflict (HWC) and measures to strengthen its prevention, mitigation, and long-term management. During the meeting, the committee was informed about the establishment of the Centre of Excellence on Human-Wildlife Conflict (CoE-HWC) at the Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON) in Coimbatore.

Elephants have emerged as a far deadlier threat to human life than tigers in India, according to government data covering the period from 2021 to 2025. While tiger attacks claimed 393 lives during the five-year period, elephant attacks resulted in 2,898 deaths nearly seven times higher, highlighting the growing severity of human-elephant conflict across the country. Experts attribute the rising human-elephant conflict to shrinking forests, habitat fragmentation, blocked migration corridors, and expanding human settlements.

During 38 years in the Indian Forest Service, he worked in the Sundarbans and Buxa tiger reserves, Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, and the national parks of Singalila and Neora Valley. His early career in West Bengal brought him into contact with tigers, rhinos, elephants, and the administrative problems surrounding each of them.

An elephant, suspected to have died of electrocution, was found inside an estate at Mayamudi in Ponnampet taluk of Kodagu district. The elephant, aged between 35 and 45 years, was reportedly electrocuted yesterday night after it came in contact with a power line in the estate belonging to one A. Devaiah. Hunsur DCF Kirubananthan, other Forest officials and staff visited the spot this morning. Steps are being taken to conduct post-mortem and ascertain the cause of death.

The Ministry of Agriculture & Environment has approved a conservation project to help protect the endangered elephant herds in Da Nang & Dak Lak as part of the VN Elephant Conservation Action Plan to 2035 funded by the World Wide Fund for Nature VN. WWF VN said the non-refundable grant worth 23.9 billion VND (908,000 USD) will help provide conservation and protection solutions for the wild elephant community, including by creating safe migratory corridors, improving habitat and reducing conflict between humans and wildlife.
