The human–elephant conflict has become a major and challenging issue in the country, Deputy Director (Elephant Conservation) of the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC), U.L. Thaufeeq, said. He said that the Cabinet has approved the implementation of a National Action Plan under the current government to address the issue in a structured manner.

To mitigate the growing human-elephant conflict in Kandhamal district, the Forest department has installed a solar-powered siren-based early warning system in elephant corridors to alert villagers about the movement of the long ranging animals. Under the initiative, six solar-powered sirens have been installed along identified elephant corridors in G Udayagiri forest range.

A motorist was injured after his car hit an elephant calf and plunged into a 5m-deep ravine at Kampung Pengkalan Bukit Asli on Jalan Felda Nitar here. Mersing fire station chief Mohd Alias Hussin said they received an emergency call at 2.28am on Wednesday (July 1).

A 20-year-old female wild elephant died due to multiple organ failure in the Sigur Forest Range of the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) on Monday. The post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday morning by Theppakkadu Veterinary Assistant Surgeon K Rajesh Kumar. The procedure was carried out in the presence of officials from the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB).

A wild elephant got trapped while attempting to cross a railway barricade erected by the Forest Department near Arekoppa village in the Cauvery Wildlife Division of Kanakapura taluk in Bengaluru South district on Wednesday. The railway barricade, constructed using railway tracks and iron pillars, has been installed to prevent wild animals from entering human habitations.

A large herd of wild elephants was seen roaming along the Prime Minister Neem Ali Road near the Numaligarh Refinery during the daytime on Tuesday. A scooty that had been parked beside the road was knocked over and damaged by one of the elephants in the herd. However, after an eyewitness shouted, the elephant stopped, preventing further damage.

The Expressway between Bengaluru and Mysuru constructed by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) aimed at cutting down on travel time between the two cities which are about 140- km apart but the Expressway cut the traditional route used by elephants to cross from Kanakapura region to Magadi region in Bengaluru South district leading to spike in man-elephant conflicts.

A wild elephant has damaged a section of the elephant-proof wall under construction in Aralam Farm, even as the Forest department has intensified patrolling in neighbouring Ayyankunnu following repeated elephant incursions into human settlements and farmlands.
