Tension in Odisha's Kandhamal village after tusker kills man

A tribal man was trampled to death by a tusker at Dangaeju village under Badimunda panchayat in Tikabali area of Kandhamal district. The deceased was identified as Pradip Pradhan (45). According to reports, Pradip was staying with his family in a temporary hut near his farmland, where he cultivated vegetables and other crops. His wife had gone to Dangaeju village for cooking and Pradip was alone in the hut. All of a sudden, a wild tusker reportedly entered the hut and attacked Pradip. The elephant trampled him to death, leaving his body severely mutilated.

Garbage dump near Sirumugai forest may be drawing elephants, warn officials

A day after inspecting the banana plantation at Vedar Colony in Chikkadasampalayam, where a wild tusker was electrocuted to death, officials of the Coimbatore Forest Division are planning to write to Collector Pavankumar G Giriyappanavar, seeking to stop dumping of garbage and take steps to clear the existing dump along the forest boundary. The entire solid waste generated by the local panchayat is being dumped at Vedar Colony, barely 150 metres from the forest boundary of the Sirumugai Forest Range.

After mother’s death: Grieving elephant calf evades Forest teams

Madikeri: A massive operation is underway to trace a one-and-a-half-year-old orphaned elephant calf that was found beside the carcass of its mother at a private coffee estate in Kodagu district. More than 50 Forest Department personnel, assisted by drone cameras, are combing the area in an effort to locate the calf and reunite it with its herd. The female wild elephant was found dead under suspicious circumstances at Kaurikadu Estate near Anandpur in Siddapura, Virajpet taluk.

Two held for possession of elephant tusks in Nilgiris

Wild elephant gores bull after entering farm near Thalavadi

A wild elephant entered a farm near Thalavadi and seriously injured a bull after goring it with its tusks. The lone elephant strayed into a farm owned by Rathinasamy at Tamilpuram, under the Jeerahalli Forest Range in the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, reportedly in search of food and water. It damaged standing crops, prompting farmers to attempt to drive it away. During the operation, the elephant turned aggressive and attacked a bull that had been tethered in a cattle shed on the farm, injuring it severely.
