The rescue of a wounded wild elephant in Kuttampuzha of Kothamangalam has been stalled due to public protests. The elephant fell into a drinking water well next to a house early on Tuesday morning. Forest officials immediately reached the site and began rescue operations, but had to stop midway due to the protests.

The death of a full-grown female wild elephant in a paddy field near human habitation in Assam’s Tinsukia district has prompted the Doomdooma Forest Division to launch an investigation. The elephant carcass was found on Tuesday morning at Balijan village under the Dwarmara Reserve Forest after local residents informed wildlife activists and forest officials.

A farmer in Lampung was reportedly killed after being attacked by a herd of wild elephants in the Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park (TNBBS) in West Lampung Regency. The victim is believed to have died after the hut was surrounded by a passing elephant herd. When authorities discovered the site, the hut had been severely damaged.

Home Minister Sudan Gurung is on a visit to Jhapa to assess border security, review security challenges in the district and inspect areas affected by recurring human-elephant conflict. After arriving in Jhapa on Sunday night, Gurung met members of the District Security Committee at Salbari Heritage Villa in Arjundhara Municipality-11 on Monday.
